World Class Mixologists create SLOVENIA VODKA tribute to Mikhail Baryshnikov
September 23, 2014 – New York, NY – Chef Peter Xaviar Kelly’s Slovenia Vodka and Bar Sardine, part of Little Wisco’s West Village-based family of restaurants, teamed up on Tuesday, September 23rd at Bar Sardine to create an event honoring the extraordinary life and work of Mikhail Baryshnikov. Little Wisco’s Director of Bar Operations Brian Bartels was joined by two top mixologists from the Bar Sardine team: Kenta Goto, former head bartender at Pegu Club and voted Best Bartender at Tales of the Cocktail in 2011, and Brett Buehler, formerly lead bartender at the Upper West Side’s Fatty Crab. Brian Bartels began his bartending career at many well-known Madison, WI haunts before helping to open Joseph Leonard and five subsequent restaurants with Little Wisco.

Kenta created this version of a classic martini wielding nuanced depth and wildly expressive unpredictability, not unlike the forms often expressed in dance.

Brett wanted a seasonal element here, celebrating the thoughtfulness from an evolved, sensitive mind conveyed through one’s dialogue and reading an interview where Mikhail expressed an appreciation for Mad Men, as this cocktail is a spin on a classic Old Fashioned.

Brian felt compelled to incorporate ingredients stretching multiple continents and regions, as he felt Mikhail’s legacy does just that, giving people hope to grow and become greater than the sum of their proximities.
